Oh, the Irony

Isn't this the type of irony only God would play on us? At the tender age of 6, we fight our parents and any obstacle for the mere title of being called an adult or something of that authority. This is why, when halloween comes, kids dress up as cowboys, out in the endless desert terrain with nothing near us (the perfect symbol of solitude); We dress up as Batman, but not Robin because we prefer to be all-powerful without the need of any such company; and of course, we want our identities hidden, so hopefully people won't notice our age and note our defiance against common knowledge.
And yet as we age, we struggle to realize what it was that we fought for; we found the rewards only to be hidden within all the costs: barring responsibilites that limit our freedom and independence, the sole items we had fought to achieve. We are constantly amused of how we have aged over the years and we look back to find that we have achieved exactly what we strived for: some variation of independence. Although at this stage of our life, we haven't fully reached independence but we've gradually moved up the mountain. Even though from far out, it looks to be a big hill, only when you climb it yourself and examine the details, do you realize that the mountain is a difficult feat and for some, such as I, feel that the pains of the mountain aren't worth the feat.

I'd also like to add that it is our oblivious nature that makes childhood so peaceful and innocent.
