Affection

Affection; it's something humans live for, strive for, work for. From childhood, people love their parents and, in turn, hopefully, the parents show affection back. It's the balance of life. As they gradually move farther and farther away from their parents, they search out to find a spouse, another reciprocator, a soulmate. "Til death do us part," is the grandest example: people are willing to stay affectionate, usually over a long period of time. When people show affection towards someone, it's almost expected that the other reciprocate. It's seen in nature, when a young cub cuddles with the loving mother bear. Animal instinct gives us this "til death do us part." The mother bear would gladly sacrifice her life for her cub to escape. It's that beautiful.

It's interesting that you use the word "affection" and "love" almost interchangeably, but does that mean you believe the two to mean the same thing? When describing marriage, "willing to stay affectionate" it sounds as if it's almost a chore to be affectionate. Call me a hopeless romantic, which I probably am, but couldn't it be a type of love that pulls and binds people together indefinitely? An emotion that does not exactly pull on what should be expected, but more on the needs of a person. I don't mean to sound critical, because I really do think this was written beautifully, but these were just a few questions that arose in my mind when reading.
